IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Blind River Refinery supports Sault Area Hospital Foundation
The Sault Area Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that Cameco Corporation and the Blind River Refinery employees have raised a remarkable $44,000 through their Cameco Giving Program. The funds raised will go towards the purchase of Anesthetic gas monitors which are very crucial to the hospital’s medical professionals in administering a general anesthetic.
The Sault Hospital Foundation would like to thank all Blind River Refinery employees and Cameco for their exceptional efforts. They were extremely successful in surpassing their fundraising goal of $30,000.
Currently Sault Area Hospital has 9 anesthetic gas monitors that required replacement as an emergency requisition. These monitors measure the five most commonly used anesthetic gases when operating on a patient. The monitors are located in Maternal Child, Ophthalmology, and the Operating Suites.
“Anesthesia gas monitoring is a standard of care in Canada and being able to detect the presence of C02 gas in the air that a patient exhales confirms that the breathing tube is correctly placed in the lungs. Born and raised in Blind River, I am both pleased and proud that the Cameco Corporation and Employees of the Blind River Refinery were so successful in their fundraising efforts.”
Dr. Jay Labbe, Anesthetic and Emergency Physician
In addition to Cameco’s efforts towards safety and protection of the environment, they also ensure their commitment towards community responsibility as a high priority.
About the community donations program, Chris Astles, Refinery General Manager said “it’s a pleasure to have to match our employees’ generosity”.
Thank you for your generous donation towards our community & district hospital. We greatly appreciate your support of advancing excellence in healthcare.

"Anesthesia gas monitoring is a standard of care in Canada and being able to detect the presence of CO2 gas in the air that a patient exhales confirms that the breathing tube is correctly placed in the lungs, which was a 20th century breakthrough in technology that made general anesthetics much safer worldwide."
