CURRENT NEEDS

This year, Sault Area Hospital needs $5 million of medical equipment

SAH Foundation funds the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital. We rely on the support of our generous donor community to ensure that Sault Area Hospital can continue to deliver outstanding care, close to home, for everyone in the Algoma District.

Please find a brief overview of the equipment needed by our hospital for 2023-2024 in the list below.

  • Bequest / Will
A bequest is a gift of cash or property included in your will. This can be put in when you create your will, or by adding an appendix to your will. It can be a specific amount, a portion of the residue of your estate (what's left after all debts/expenses are settled), or it can be deferred until after the death of your spouse or partner.
  • Charitable Gift Annuity / Charitable Remainder Trust
You can make a gift to SAHF and increase your future income at the same time. In both charitable gift annuities (CGAs) and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs), the donor transfers assets to SAHF in exchange for regular income payments. The donor receives a tax deduction and other potential tax savings. The remaining funds transfer to SAHF upon the death of the final income beneficiary. CGAs offer the security of fixed payments to one or two annuitants. CRTs provide variable payments to beneficiaries but can offer a greater return with income for a lifetime, a term of years, or a combination of the two.
  • Endowment
Money that is donated to be permanently invested. The interest generated is spent each year and the original investment remains untouched.
  • Gift of Residual Interest
An arrangement where a donor irrevocably gives real estate or personal property to a charity while retaining the right to use the property for life or for a term of years. Upon the donor’s death or expiration of the term of years, the donor’s right to use the property ceases, and SAHF is given complete control of the property.
  • Life Insurance
Allows you to make a large gift in the future by paying relatively small premiums now. You can name SAHF as the owner or beneficiary of either a new or existing life insurance policy. Annual payments of life insurance premiums are elligible for a charitable tax receipt.
  • RRSP / RRIF
You can name SAHF as the beneficiary of your RRSP / RRIF - which means the full fair market value of this investment would be transferred to SAHF upon your death.
  • Securities
You may choose to give stocks, bonds, futures and options as well as mutual fund shares - to learn more about giving securities, go to "Gifts of Securities".

Between April 1st 2023 and March 31st 2024, SAHF aims to raise $5 million.

Our Investment in Advanced Medical Equipment

At SAH Foundation, we embrace the challenge of providing top-notch medical equipment despite the high costs involved.

By spreading the cost of equipment over multiple years, we ensure that our resources can cover both significant investments, such as the recent $3.2 million MRI machine, and the various other equipment needs of Sault Area Hospital.

SAH Foundation's financing agreement means that we don't pay any interest on medical equipment purchases.

For 2023 – 2024, we have committed to raising $1,155,000 for our financed equipment needs. This will fund:

  • MRI Machine

  • Medication Dispensing Cabinets

  • Interventional Radiology Suite

  • Catheterization Lab Replacement

  • OR Integration System

  • Patient Monitor Replacement

  • SPD Equipment

  • Enterprise PACS

  • Fluorology Room

  • Gas Machines

  • Smart Pumps

  • MIS Instrument Trays

  • Defibrillators

  • Pacmed Medication Packager

Together, we are transforming lives and ensuring a brighter future for our community through advanced medical technology. Thank you for your support.

The MRI Machine

This state-of-the-art technology, valued at $3.2 million, is essential to patient care.

Last year, SAH Foundation chose to finance the MRI machine over a decade. This meant that we could bring this vital equipment to Sault Area Hospital without neglecting other critical areas of the hospital.

Our Planning Process

Every year, Sault Area Hospital goes through a planning process to identify which equipment is needed most critically.

Care workers and managers on the frontlines of healthcare at Sault Area Hospital recommend the most needed equipment. This can include equipment that needs to be replaced, or new equipment that will improve or expand services.

The Capital Planning Committee scores and prioritizes these recommendations. They consider whether equipment benefits patients and care workers, improves efficiency or wait times, and if existing equipment can be repaired or serviced.

Based on funds available from SAH Foundation, the Capital Planning Committee agrees on the final list of equipment.

Together with brilliant donors, influencers, and community event coordinators, SAH Foundation aims to raise around $5 million every year to support the equipment needs of Sault Area Hospital.

We can't do it without the help of generous people like you. See more ways to get involved here.
