On July 29th, a group from the Human Resources Department at Algoma Steel won a $103,375 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) July 50/50 draw. Their lucky number (JULY-3374838) was drawn electronically, and they were contacted immediately.
The full group of winners included: Steph Luciani, Taylor Bellini, Nicholas Tassone, Anthony Saric, Toni Adams, Anthony Pettalia, Tracy Pettenuzzo, Lou Iaconis, Laura McPherson, Mirella Allard, Caitlin Baker, Sam Pacello, Jason Chilelli, Mike Mannarino, Amy McMillan, and Teresa D’Angelo. Each of the 16 winners will take home just over $6,460. One member of the group resides in Laird Township, and the rest are all from Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

Group ticket purchaser, Steph Luciani, was surprised to get the phone call on Friday morning. The HR group has been purchasing tickets together for over 2 years, supporting local care at Sault Area Hospital. When called with the good news, Steph identified all 16 winners and verified their win. She then emailed all of the participants to tell them the good news.
“Every single person called me and asked if I was joking because that is something I would do. It was great to actually hear everyone’s reaction when they realized it was real. We have been extremely busy these last few months, so it felt amazing to give everyone the great news on a Friday before the long weekend!”
Running a group play is simple. Every month, Steph purchases tickets online and splits the cost with everyone who wants to join in. By pooling the team’s money, she is able to buy more chances to win for the whole group!

The team’s win comes a week after the announcement of Algoma Steel’s monumental $1,000,000 donation to Sault Area Hospital Foundation, supporting the completion of a new Residential Withdrawal Management Facility on Old Garden River Road.
Tickets for SAHF’s August 50/50 draw are on sale now at www.soolottery.ca. You can also buy tickets in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8:00am-4:30pm, Tuesday through Thursday. Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
There are 3 Early Bird draws this month, each for $10,000! Early Bird Draws will be held on August 12, 19 and 26 with the grand prize awarded on August 31st.
