Chris won $297,185 this September!

On September 30th at 11 am, Chris Kubis-Biemann of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, won a record-setting $297,185 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s (SAHF) September electronic and online 50/50 draw. Her lucky number (K-6345054) was drawn electronically, and she was contacted immediately.

Chris has been purchasing her tickets since April, but her support goes far beyond purchasing raffle tickets. “My family has had so many great experiences at Sault Area Hospital, I feel so good being able to support to help other people have the care we’ve had,” says Chris. “It’s so very important to have such amazing care at our hospital, especially when your family needs it.”

Chris’ husband and granddaughter received life-saving diagnoses at Sault Area Hospital. “We are just so fortunate that the healthcare teams here are so incredible. They took care of my family when we were in need. We’ve always made donations and supported where we can. We hope more and more people continue to join us, whether it’s donations or support through this 50/50 draw, because our local healthcare is so important. This money will help us give back more.”

With her big win, Chris has indicated she will be sharing with family as well as the charities that mean the most to her. “We’ll make some improvements to our house, but I’m most excited about adding to my grandchildren’s education fund. Their future is important,” says Chris.

This month’s prize marks another massive jump in both jackpot size and funds raised. Proceeds from SAHF 50/50 total over $880,000 since its launch in Nov. 2019, raising a significant portion of Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s $5 million annual needs.

Over the summer, SAHF surveyed 50/50 supporters on which equipment should be purchased next, and the consensus was “ventilators”. The five ventilators our hospital needs this year will be paid for, in full, just from the last two month’s proceeds. “It’s an incredible feat to raise that much money in so little time! Even outside of this pandemic, ventilators are crucial and life-saving equipment for the Intensive Care and Neo-natal Intensive Care Units at Sault Area Hospital. Because of your support, these ventilators will be here to help patients breathe when they can’t on their own. Thank you.” says Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
