Geneviève and Mackenzie joined the Foundation team in May 2026 as Summer Students. They may only be with us for a season, but they are contributing to projects that will carry into the next year! Together, they're supporting fundraising events, community outreach, communications, and lottery initiatives.

What does a typical day look like for Gen & Mack?

No two days are ever the same! Whether we're drafting newsletters and articles, assisting with lottery operations, planning upcoming events, putting up signs and posters around the community, or helping at fundraising events, we have had the opportunity to experience many different aspects of SAHF’s work.

What do you enjoy most about working at SAHF?

Gen: The best part is working alongside the SAHF team and connecting with community partners and volunteers. As an extrovert, I love meeting people and I enjoy the collaborative nature of fundraising and community events.

Mack: There are two things I love most about working at SAHF. First is the impact the Foundation has on the community, and being a part of that in some way. Second is the work experience I'm gaining. I was looking for exposure to different types of work, and as a student at Algoma University, gaining administrative experience helps me work toward my future goals.

Why Sault Area Hospital Foundation?

Gen: It allows me to apply the knowledge I've gained through my studies continue developing professionally, and give back to the community where I grew up.

Mack: My mother has volunteered with Sault Area Hospital and SAHF for many years and my family has also seen first-hand what a care experience at SAH looks like. Working at the Foundation is my way of giving back, not only to the community, but for that care we got while we were here.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Gen: You can often find me hiking local trails, trying out new recipes, watching horror movies, spending time with family, or performing around Sault Ste. Marie as a singer.

Mack: There are a few things I alternate between when it comes to off-work hours. I like building and painting models, walking, reading, or engaging with some sort of media (movies, video games, etc.).

If you could choose a theme song for your work day, what would it be?

Gen: Crowded Table by the Highwomen – a reminder that there is power in numbers!

Mack: I’m Still Standing by Elton John. After everything my family has been through — both medically and personally — this song reminds me that no matter what life throws at you, you keep showing up and keep moving forward. That's the mindset I try to bring to work every day.

What message would you want to share with our supporters/community?

Gen's message to you:" Thank you! At some point in our lives, all of us will rely on our local healthcare system. By donating, volunteering, or spreading the word about SAHF’s mission, you help ensure that Sault Area Hospital has the resources it needs to continue providing outstanding care in Algoma.”

Mack's message to you: "All donations, no matter the size, make a difference. Thank you for helping make exceptional care possible closer to home."
