Meet Kat Hazelton

Hello! I’m Kat, the Communications & Development Intern at Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF). I joined SAHF in January 2026 through a Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) funded internship contract. I’m often the first face you’ll see when you walk through our doors!
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me is… well, talking to people! Whether that’s over the phone, by email, or in person when someone stops by. If you’re here to make a gift, ask a question, or just say hello, I’m here to help.
Every day is different, which keeps things interesting. One day I might be writing social media content or a blog post, and the next I could be taking photos at an event, selling lottery tickets, entering donations, or helping with the latest project around the office. I get to work with all teams across the Foundation, and I’m always happy to contribute wherever I’m needed!
What do you love most about the work you do?
I learn something new every day! Before I started working at SAHF, I didn’t realize how important donor support is to local healthcare and funding equipment. This experience has given me a whole new understanding and appreciation for every person who chooses to give.
Why do you work at Sault Area Hospital Foundation?
I get to work alongside a team that is passionate about what they do. Through my work with the SAHF team and conversations with supporters throughout our community, I get to see firsthand the difference they make for our hospital.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my dog Roxy, my husband Nick, and my extended family.
I’m also a big reader, especially fantasy, but recently I’ve been making my way through mysteries and discovering a new love for classic whodunits. When I’m not reading, you can usually find me watching a good TV show, trying out a new craft, or trying to convince my husband that there’s definitely another home renovation we need to do!
If you could choose a theme song for your work day, what would it be?
As a big Swiftie, “Shake It Off” feels like the obvious choice. Even on the craziest days, you handle whatever comes your way and don’t let things get you down!
And on days when you just have to keep going and trust that things will work out, “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World reminds me that everything is going to be alright.
What message would you want to share with our supporters/community?
Like most, I assumed healthcare was fully funded. Working here taught me that's not the case. Without donors, we wouldn’t have the equipment that our community relies on every day.
