On March 31st, Richard Harasym of Marathon, ON and Rebecca Harasym of Sault Ste. Marie, ON won a $156,850 jackpot with ticket # BFF-1224552 in the March 2022 SAHF 50/50 Draw!
Richard and his daughter Rebecca bought the ticket together to support healthcare in Sault Ste. Marie. “Both my children live in the Soo, and I know I want to support the hospital they will go to when they need care,” explained Richard. Rebecca added, “I don’t buy a lot of lottery tickets because it’s hard to justify, but this draw is different. Knowing that the funds support our community and purchase equipment for Sault Area Hospital, I felt it was a good purchase.”
Richard, a retired resident of nearby Marathon, was out for his daily walk when he received the call. “I couldn’t believe it. I thought I must be hearing things. Cars were driving by and there was no way they said I won, I never win anything,” said Richard. The retiree indicated that money will help make his retired life extra special. Rebecca was just stepping out of work when she was connected to the call. She shared that she would love to buy a house, and this money could help her get into a difficult housing market. As the March winners, Richard and Rebecca were offered the choice of a $30,000 travel voucher from Northstar Travel and Tours or a $20,000 bonus prize. The two chose the cash bonus, giving them each a $88,425 cash prize.
In addition to the Grand Prize winner, Ken Fleming of Sault Ste. Marie, ON was the winner of a $10,000 Early Bird Prize.
March 2022 also marked the first month of winners for SAHF 50/50’s exciting new calendar draw add-on. Ticket buyers in February were given the chance to add on a “Win Your Way” March Calendar Draw ticket. Throughout March, an additional 93 prizes were awarded to lucky winners – for a total of 95 winners in March; the most in SAHF 50/50 history!
