Carrie Cerenzie wins $81,125 in the March SAHF 50/50 Draw

Proceeds from Sault Area Hospital Foundation lottery programs help support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.
On March 31, Carrie Cerenzie of Sault Ste. Marie, ON won a $81,125 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) March 50/50 draw. Carrie’s lucky number (M-17311966) was drawn electronically, and she was called immediately.
“Oh my goodness, are you kidding? Is this for real?” was Carrie’s reaction when she got the call with the good news. A local realtor, Carrie purchased her ticket the night before the draw and never expected it would turn into a big win. “I was waiting for clients at a showing when I saw a reminder email come in and thought, may as well”, she shared. “Then when the number came up on my phone, I thought ‘who’s calling me? It must be something about a house’,” she added with a laugh.
“As a long-time supporter of the SAHF 50/50 I never expected to win but it’s a way for me to give back for the great care I have received from Sault Area Hospital over the years,” said Carrie. “I would absolutely recommend buying a ticket. You’re helping the Foundation fund lifesaving equipment for our hospital.” Carrie also generously donated $10,000 of her winnings back to Sault Area Hospital Foundation, making a direct impact on the equipment our hospital and community depends on.
Carrie plans to use the rest of her winnings to help keep her daughter debt-free as she pursues her PhD in Chemistry, and maybe to build a new garage.
Carrie wasn’t the only winner this month – March’s Early Bird, Linda Helin of Timmins, ON, had the choice between a $10,000 travel voucher or $8,000, on February 19, with ticket M-18249699. After taking some time to decide, Linda chose the $8,000 cash prize.
“Carrie’s win is proof that even a last-minute ticket can mean a life-changing difference,“ said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Not only for the winner, but for every patient who benefits from the equipment funded through our lottery programs. Carrie’s decision to donate back to the Foundation is a powerful example of the impact and generosity this community is known for.”

Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
