Dale & Gail Hernden win $64,238 in the August SAHF 50/50 Draw
Proceeds from Sault Area Hospital Foundation lottery programs help support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.
On August 31, Dale and Gail Hernden of Thessalon, ON won a $64,238 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) August 50/50 draw. Their lucky number (A-77035883) was drawn electronically, and they were called immediately.
Dale and Gail have been long-time supporters of the SAHF 50/50 and are no strangers to winning big while supporting local healthcare. In December 2023, the couple won the $10,000 early bird prize.
Now, they’ve gone from early bird winners to grand prize winners! They have supported SAHF every step along the way. “It’s important to support your local hospital,” shared Dale. “Sault Area Hospital is a vital part of our healthcare system here in the Soo.”
The couple hasn’t decided what they’ll do with their winnings just yet. For now, they’re enjoying the excitement of the unexpected win and taking their time deciding what comes next.
Dale and Gail weren’t the only winners in August. Janet Morris of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was the lucky $10,000 Early Bird winner on August 20, with ticket A-18400988.
August also marked the launch of the first-ever SAHF 50/50 Add-On raffle. The grand prize winner had the choice between a brand-new Sea-Doo Spark & Trailer package, valued at $14,099.12, or $10,000 in cash. On August 31, Mike McRoberts’ winning ticket, SD-67594021, was drawn. Mike decided to take the $10,000 cash prize to put towards his home renovation fund.

Their support allows us to introduce new and exciting opportunities through our lottery programs while continuing to fund critical medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at select convenience stores and the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
