Replacing aging equipment will help keep essential brain testing at Sault Area Hospital.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is the only hospital in Algoma that offers Electroencephalogram (EEG) testing.

An EEG is a non-invasive test that measures brain activity. It can help diagnose epilepsy and seizure disorders. It can also help find the cause of symptoms like fainting, confusion, memory problems, and more.

On average, SAH performs 20 EEG tests every month. Almost half are for children.

Having access to this testing means patients and families can get answers right here at home.

SAH’s current EEG equipment is seven years old and will soon need to be replaced. Without this equipment, patients would be sent to Sudbury, or further, for this test.

For a patient experiencing brain related health concerns, travelling can be difficult and stressful.

And for families with children who need tests, it could mean time away from work and family for adults too.

Keeping EEG testing at SAH helps patients receive the care they need, close to home. Your support helps ensure everyone in Algoma continues to have access to this testing, here at SAH.

Community support helps our team provide outstanding care!
