When Sandra’s health suddenly changed, the care she needed, and the support she relied on, were right here.

For over 30 years, Sandra Gordon and Peggy Webb have been neighbours. Over time, they became close friends. Celebrating milestones together, sharing moments, and looking out for one another.

In December of 2025, Sandra started feeling “off.” After a few weeks, she mentioned it to Peggy and her husband. They encouraged her to go to the hospital. Looking back, Sandra was grateful they did.

A few years earlier, Sandra had been admitted to Sault Area Hospital (SAH). A bad reaction to a medication had affected her kidney function. Sandra knew she might eventually need renal dialysis. That time came in January of 2026.

Sandra arrived at SAH by ambulance, and was admitted to hospital for a week. During her stay, testing showed that her kidneys were not working as they should. Her care team determined that she would need hemodialysis: a life-saving treatment that would become part of her weekly routine.

Your gifts help Sandra, and many other renal patients in our community, access care close to home.

While starting hemodialysis brought changes to her day-to-day living routines, support from the Renal team helped Sandra gain confidence. That confidence helps her live independently. But she doesn’t do it alone. Sandra has a whole team behind her.

Peggy helps with medications, meal plans and whatever else Sandra needs. Peggy also connected Sandra with Ontario Health atHome and Bayshore Home Health so Sandra can continue to live at home. Sandra’s family doctor, Dr. Giunti, stays connected to her dialysis care.

Together, each care team helps keep Sandra close to the people who mean the most to her.

"I don't know what I would do if I couldn't come to SAH for care. It means everything to me. My quality of life revolves around it." - Sandra Gordon, Renal Dialysis Patient

In the last 3 years, the Renal Program at SAH has received almost $100,000 in new equipment thanks to your support.

You helped fund dialysis test kits and tools that help keep equipment running smoothly. You supported a special monitor that checks blood flow and access function during dialysis. And, from our last newsletter, your gifts funded a blanket warmer that keeps dialysis patients comfortable during treatment.

But your donations do so much more than fund critical equipment at SAH. They help support outstanding care, close to home.

On behalf of patients like Sandra, thank you for your ongoing support!
