Maciej Grabowski wins $70,650 in the April SAHF 50/50 Draw

Proceeds from Sault Area Hospital Foundation lottery programs help support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.
On April 30, Maciej Grabowski of Tottenham, ON won a $70,650 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) April 50/50 draw. Maciej’s lucky number (A-60766744) was drawn electronically, and he was called immediately.
When we called to share the good news, Maciej could hardly believe it. After taking a seat and asking us to repeat the number, he was overwhelmed with gratitude. As a regular supporter of the SAHF 50/50, Maciej never expected to get a winning call. “I didn’t believe it at first! Everyone told me to sleep on it, but I could barely sleep that night,” he said.
Maciej moved to Canada from Poland 37 years ago and built a life for his family through hard work and determination. He did whatever it took to make sure his children had the opportunities to succeed – including working two jobs to support them through university. “I always said that my top priority is my kids’ education,” he shared. “I wanted them to have a better life and this win can make it happen. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now I can help them focus on their education without worrying as much.”
Maciej wasn’t the only winner this month – April’s Early Bird, Kraig Edwards of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was the lucky winner of $10,000 on April 16, with ticket A-60907639.
“Stories like Maciej’s show how far the impact of our 50/50 extends,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “While this month’s jackpot is making a big difference for a family in southern Ontario, it also supports the patients and families who rely on Sault Area Hospital right here in our community. Tickets for SAHF’s May 50/50 draw are on sale now! Get your tickets before May 13 for a chance to win the $10,000 early bird prize – plus every ticket has a chance at the growing jackpot.
Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at select convenience stores and the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
