Hello! I’m Tim, Community Engagement and Events at Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF). I’ve lived and worked in this community for 30 years, and joining the Foundation in May 2025 felt like a natural next step. This role is the perfect opportunity to use my background in the arts, media, and education to support the health and well-being of our hometown and throughout Algoma.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me is all about connection! Whether I’m meeting with community partners, exploring new opportunities, or connecting with our incredible volunteers, my goal is to strengthen community support to ensure we continue delivering outstanding healthcare close to home.
I work to raise awareness about the vital role SAHF has in Algoma through creative and engaging fundraising and education initiatives.
A big part of my role involves extensive research and planning – from drafting proposals to bringing fundraising events to life. I thrive on the creativity it requires! I’m always looking for fresh ideas that can attract new audiences and deepen our connections, like our most recent event: Meals ‘N Reels! This event was made possible through strong community partnership.
What do you love most about the work you do?
I’m proud to be part of such a great team. Working with this group keeps me informed and inspired. That inspiration fuels fresh ideas that help us connect with new and existing supporters, and I love seeing the impact of this work for Sault Area Hospital. We are fortunate to have outstanding care close to home, and I am grateful to have a part in it.
What I love most about my work is seeing the real impact supporters have on the overall health of our families, friends, and neighbours in the community. To me, that impact is priceless.
Why do you work at Sault Area Hospital Foundation?
My career in the arts gave me a deep appreciation for how vital fundraising is in non-profit organizations. My role here feels deeply personal and fulfilling. The work SAHF does is so vital to the health of my community, my hometown.
After working in public health, media, and education, it’s meaningful to bring those experiences together in a way that continues to challenge me. This role gives me the perfect opportunity to keep learning and growing while giving back to the place I call home.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside the office, I’m deeply involved in local theatre and occasionally still step into the spotlight as an entertainer. For five years, I starred in the celebrity impersonation revue "An Evening at La Cage," performing in Toronto, Cancún, Miami, and St. Martin. I also headlined at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Puerto Rico, in addition to my career as a professional actor, singer, and director. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing my training and experience with local artists.
At home, I’m usually found working on the house and yard. I’m particularly proud of our master bedroom renovation featuring a walk-in closet, a gas fireplace, and an ensuite with a glass block walk-in shower.
If you could choose a theme song for your work day, what would it be?
If I had to pick a theme song for my average workday, it would definitely be “Can You Feel a Brand New Day” from the musical, The Wiz. It captures the energy and optimism I try to bring to work every day.
What message would you want to share with our supporters/community?
Every connection we make helps strengthen healthcare for everyone here in Sault Ste. Marie. Thank you for your generous contributions—in whatever form they take—and for the positive impact your efforts bring to the Sault and area.
