Anita-Louise Pekelny wins $74,392 in the September SAHF 50/50 Draw

Proceeds from Sault Area Hospital Foundation lottery programs help support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.
On September 30, Anita-Louise Pekelny of Sault Ste. Marie, ON won a $74,392 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) September 50/50 draw. Anita’s lucky number (S-28984345) was drawn electronically, and she was called immediately.
When SAHF called to share the exciting news, the call went to voicemail. Later that night, while scrolling social media, Anita saw the winning number announcement and thought, “Maybe I’ll check my tickets.” To her surprise, the numbers matched! “I couldn’t even believe it,” Anita shared. “I took a screenshot, sent it to my husband and said, OMG are these the same numbers!?”
Anita is a long-time supporter of SAHF 50/50. This month, she decided to purchase an extra set of tickets, and it turned out to be her lucky break. She supports not just for the chance to win, but because the hospital was there for her family and friends when they needed care. “You have to support your local hospital. They need funds to do what needs to be done,” Anita shared.
Anita wasn’t the only winner this month – October’s Early Bird, Sam Filice of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was the lucky winner of $10,000 on September 18, with ticket S-15157290.
“Every ticket purchased in our 50/50 makes a real difference for patients right here in Algoma,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Stories like Anita’s remind us how this community continues to come together to support local healthcare. We couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who contributes.”
Tickets for SAHF’s October 50/50 draw are on sale now! Get your tickets before midnight tonight (October 15) for a chance to win the $10,000 early bird prize – plus every ticket has a chance at the growing jackpot.
Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
