Help Make Every Breath Easier

For some patients at Sault Area Hospital, it can be hard to breathe on their own.

A ventilator helps patients breathe.
A ventilator helps patients breathe.

Ventilators provide a steady flow of air to patients who need help breathing. Think of a ventilator like a pair of helper lungs. When a patient’s lungs are sick or tired, the ventilator does the breathing for them.

Ventilators are very important to chronic care patients with lung and muscle diseases, like COPD.

Sault Area Hospital has eight ventilators in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two chronic care ventilators that are portable. The two chronic care ventilators can move with patients across the hospital. These two are in need of replacement this year.

New chronic care ventilators help our hospital and patients in a big way! These ventilators allow patients to move from the ICU to Complex Care Unit (CCU). This helps free up critical space in the ICU to provide life-saving care to patients who need around-the-clock monitoring.

This is also good news for families! The CCU has longer visiting hours, so loved ones can stay close by and visit more often. This helps improve a patient’s quality of life as they recover.

Your gifts will help to fund two new chronic care ventilators for SAH, giving a breath of fresh air to patients who need it most!

Community support helps our team provide outstanding care!
