Sault Area Hospital Foundation is celebrating a donation of $25,650 from COBS Bread Churchill Plaza through its annual Doughnation Day campaign in support of local healthcare.

The fundraising effort was driven by the team at COBS Bread Churchill Plaza and the generosity of supporters in our community. Customers contributed to the campaign through in-store donations from February 7 to March 8. The campaign culminated with Doughnation Day on March 8, where $2 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold was added to the total.

The local bakery finished as the top fundraising COBS location in all of Canada, raising $12,825. Their first place finish earned them a matching contribution from the Gillespie Family (COBS Bread Founders) that doubled the funds raised for local healthcare.

For Karen Spyce, franchise owner, the cause is deeply personal. After Karen lost her father in October, she made the decision to give back to the people and the place that cared for him with such kindness and compassion.

“We’re incredibly proud of what our team and community accomplished together,” shared Karen. “Through the generosity of our customers and the passion of our staff, we raised $12,825 for Sault Area Hospital Foundation and finished #1 in Canada for the campaign. Knowing the Gillespie family will match our Doughnation makes this even more meaningful, and we’re honoured to support the hospital that cares for so many in our community.”

“We are so grateful to the COBS Bread team and every customer who supported this campaign,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director of Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Finishing first in the country speaks volumes about the generosity and impact our community has when we come together. Funds raised will help ensure our hospital has the tools needed to provide the best possible care for patients across the Algoma District.”

On behalf of Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors, Staff and patients this gift will impact - thank you to the COBS Bread Churchill Plaza staff, Sault Area Hospital volunteers, and community members who made this possible. All funds will support the purchase of vital medical equipment at Sault Area Hospital, helping ensure patients in our community have access to outstanding care close to home.
