Proceeds from Sault Area Hospital Foundation lottery programs help support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.
On October 31, Orlando Blonda of Sault Ste. Marie, ON won a $65,908 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) October 50/50 draw. Orlando’s lucky number (O-20160847) was drawn electronically, and he was called immediately.
No tricks here – lightning has struck not once, not twice, but three times for Orlando Blonda! He has once again won big while supporting Sault Area Hospital Foundation – one Split the Pot prize and now two 50/50 jackpots in three consecutive years. Despite this incredible streak, he doesn’t see himself as particularly lucky. He just understands the importance of supporting local healthcare.
This latest win brings a mix of celebration and support. Orlando plans to visit his family in Arizona, but most importantly, support his grandson. His grandson lives with autism and requires treatment that can be costly and not covered by government funding. Thanks to the community’s support of the SAHF 50/50, this win makes essential needs, like speech therapy, possible. “He’s the reason I get up every morning,” Orlando shared. “We needed the extra help, and now it’s here. This will help give him opportunities for a better life.”
Orlando wasn’t the only winner this month – October’s Early Bird, Betty Bryant of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was the lucky winner of $10,000 on October 16, with ticket O-28963413.
“It’s heartwarming to hear Orlando’s story and see how this win will directly impact his family,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Stories like this remind us how supporting local healthcare matters for our entire community. Just as community support helps bring important medical equipment to Sault Area Hospital, this win will help bring important opportunities to Orlando’s grandson.”

Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
