This spring, your donations can help fund a portable ultrasound unit for the Emergency Department (ED) at Sault Area Hospital.
Portable ultrasound is a vital tool used every day in the ED, almost as often as a stethoscope! An ultrasound lets care teams see inside a patient’s body to understand what might be happening. This helps them make quick and accurate decisions, especially during emergencies.
While ultrasounds are also available in Medical Imaging, the portable ultrasound is a small machine that can be moved right to a patient’s bedside.
In the ED, ultrasounds are often one of the first steps in assessing trauma, heart issues, breathing problems, or internal bleeding.
Portable ultrasounds aren’t just for seeing what’s wrong – they can also make procedures safer. Physicians use portable ultrasound to help provide guidance when draining fluid from around the lungs or heart.
Right now, SAH has one portable ultrasound for the ED. Your support can help fund a new unit to help move patients through the department more efficiently.
